Beating the January Blues

For me there is no better way to start 2021 than creating a flower arrangement with hyacinths - given the fact that hyacinths are associated with spring and rebirth. The name Hyacinthus is derived from a Greek word meaning the blue larkspur flower or the color purple. Traditionally hyacinths are part of the decoration for the Persian New Year celebration. So just one more reason to put them on our table, because we all deserve a very Happy New Year.

Color and Fragrant

Personally, I do not only love them because I got them every birthday as a child but because of the range of colors and the amazing fragrant. During the 16th century the plants were introduced to Europe and they became so popular that Dutch bulb growers bred more than 2000 cultivars during the 18th century. Today you can choose approximately between 60 cultivars. The color varies between blue, violet, pink, white, and light purple giving you plenty of options for different color-themes.

Expert Tip

If you want to mix hyacinths with other flowers, be aware they need special care because they produce a certain slime. I suggest you cut them and put them in water for at least 8 hours before mixing them with other flowers. If you arrange them with other flowers do not cut them again. Change the water every two days to keep them as fresh as possible.

Workshop on Saturday

I hope you will join me on Sunday 1/10/2021 for my latest life event on Instagram. I will hold a spring flower workshop. You can tune in at 11.00 a.m. on my Instagram account.

I am also excited to announce, that now I can offer a new course regarding Flower Jewelry. The course is available three times a year and focuses on small scale floral design such as crowns, earrings, brooches, rings, and fascinators.
